Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility is a transformational initiative taken up by the Indian corporations/organizations towards collective upliftment and well-being of the community. As rightly said by Mr. Ratan Tata “Businesses need to go beyond the interests of their companies to the communities they serve”.
Applicability of CSR
As mandated by the Ministry, any Body corporate having a Net worth of Rs 500 crore Or more OR Turnover of Rs 1000 crore or more OR Net profit of Rs. 5 crore or more is required to spend at least 2% of its average net profit during the three immediately preceding years for the cause of social responsibility.
WHY CSR FOR SCB?
The Director General, Defence Estates, New Delhi, has issued a notification to all the Cantonment boards across the country to accept CSR funds from PSUS, private companies, NGOs, associations or any other bodies that may be interested to donate funds for the development of the Schools and hospital in the cantonment areas.
The Cantonment Board wishes to
- Promote sustainable development goals
- Enhance value creation by providing nutrition, health and sanitation facilities in the society and community in which it operates
- Provide affordable healthcare under National Health Mission (NHM).
- Maintain a special school for special children at free of cost.
- Protect the environment and promote the 3R – Reduce, Recycle and Reuse
- Indulge in public-private partnership in transforming the facilities multifold so that the benefits are reaped by the citizens.
NEED OF CSR FUNDS FOR THE ACTIVITIES OF SCB:
- The SCB carries out its expenditures from the amount generated majorly as property tax, conveyance tax, house tax and other similar taxes and minor incomes from advertisement board rentals, water supply charges, running guest halls, function halls etc. The income generated is mostly used and exhausted in maintenance of existing resources leaving no room for any social, environmental growth services or improvisation of existing services related to the school, hospital and environment in specific.
- As the SCB desires to expand, explore and provide the benefits of existing hospital structure by providing specialty services, buy new and updated study materials for the school and also provide facilities for the 3R, solid waste management, green initiatives, clean and green environment it requires funds for disposal to reap the benefits for the residents of the cantonment area and others at large.
APPEAL TO THE CORPORATE: PLEASE CONTRIBUTE CSR FUNDS
The SCB shall undertake projects and initiatives as prescribed by the Government of India with special focus on the areas like health, education, and environment protection along with cleaning and conservation activities. The details of the projects proposed to be taken up by the Board are mentioned in detail in the below linked pdf.
